The Resort - part II

Dream Info: February 1998

The next morning it was time for me to work. I was to work in what was called the Dungeon. The entrance was halfway up a hill next to the bowling allies, which were built with the pins at the top of the hill (up hill bowling). The entrance to the Dungeon was like a mine entrance; you had to duck to go in.
The Dungeon was a large network of caverns with ceilings about twenty feet high. It was sparsely lit by lights hanging down from the ceiling about every fifty feet. There were old metal grates blocking certain passages. Hence the name ‘The Dungeon.’
I was to work in the Sewer. The Sewer was a huge underground complex still being carved out of the hill. The front was finished and you walked into a large two story room with a wide walkway to the right and one straight forward that sloped downward gently. They both overlooked the bottom floor that had small tables all over; it was going to be a small café soon. All the walls were a clean white color and the floors were checkered.
On the bottom floor, in a small side hall on the left, was small room. Jared, Rob, and Holly were gathered around the sink filling silver flasks about the size of a two liter pop bottle, up with whitish and gray powders.
“Know what we’re making Trevor? The land mines!” Said Rob.
“How many do we need to make?” I asked.
“Why don’t you go ask the manager?” asked Jared.
I turned around and walked out and was going up the walkway when I noticed a man hunched next to the wall at the entrance. He had on a dark blue uniform and was holding an M-16 assault rifle, aiming it at the doors of the hotel which happened to be directly across a road, outside the cafe. A few more men in blue were running along the top of the hill. Apparently terrorists had taken over and killed all the people in the hotel and were on their way to clear this complex. I ran back and warned my friends to hide. Jared and Holly wanted to stay in the room even though that would be the first place the terrorists would look. Rob and I ran down the stairs that went to the lower floor. We hid behind the staircase and waited.
The sound of gunfire soon filled the whole complex. I noticed a screen door on the bottom floor with us going to the outside that we hadn’t noticed before. People rushed toward the screen door from the hotel; they had on brown and red uniforms. Rob and I ran to the door leading into the kitchen to hide but it was locked. There were about two feet of wall sticking out, so we pressed close against the door, trapped, and hoped they wouldn’t see us and didn’t look to hard.
Screams came from the upper floor— the workroom— and we could see men rushing along the upper walkways. Their leader came in through the screen door on the bottom floor, smiling. She had a cat in one hand and a large white object in the other. She let the object go and it floated towards us. It attached itself to the opposite side of the wall we were hiding behind; it was a wasp’s nest. The sight of this filled me with horror and the words Fiendish Dastard went through my head. The lady stepped closer to admire the nest— close enough for us to distinguish her. It was Mrs. King (English teacher from High School). She noticed us. We stared at each other; she reached into her inner jacket pocket, scowling. She slowly pulled an object out. I smiled faintly…
This is where I woke up.

The Resort - part I

I was in Rob's basement with Josh. We had on the old blue uniforms of the French army, the one with the white X across the chest. To the sound of feet stomping down the stairs we picked up our muskets. The British redcoats flooded the basement; but they were met by a horde of French that had been hiding in the back hallway. The battle raged in the family room and was over quite swiftly. The British had crushed the French and Josh and I were all that were left standing. We looked at each other and rushed for Rob’s bedroom. The British muskets were roaring behind us. Balls ripped into the wall ahead as we ran. We slammed the door when we got to Rob’s room and jumped behind his bed waiting for the shots to blast through the wall. They never came. As we sat looking at each other wondering why they didn’t shoot we heard the door start to open slowly. It was then that we realized that they didn’t know their muskets could shoot through the walls like paper. Josh jumped up and threw himself against the door, pushing the British back. He tried to lock it but there was no lock (like real life). He had his eyes closed, obviously waiting to be shot in the back, while I tried to open the window. (In this dream, his window was on the west side instead of the south. It was also one of those half window slits that don’t have window wells.) I got it open and crawled out, barely fitting; Josh followed.

We ran into the hollow and met up with a group of French survivors from a previous engagement. We headed down to Happy Hollow and then back to the hotel we were staying in.

The hotel looked like a Cruise ship. The “ship” was at one side of this expensive resort we were staying at (We being a large group of people from Davis High School). It had a large lake behind it. I walked in and all around me were the Redcoats, and a few scattered French that had lived through the days battles (All people from Davis). Nuts. They were all eating which meant I had missed dinner. Tired and discouraged from our loss, I decided to go up to the main dining room to be alone.

The dining room was on the top deck and had full length glass windows all along the sides. The tables were lined up at the sides facing the windows. The back of the hotel was in the lake and the sun was setting slowly over it now. I turned and saw Kathrine, head on table, watching me. Her eyes were pure black. I felt disturbed by this so I went into my room to sleep.

To be continued...

Them Bears

Up in the hills just outside of the city was a nice resort of sorts. It was set on the foot hills overlooking the valley.

People were strolling about in the warm sunshine. I was walking near the edge of the resort. The bushes moved and out clambered a large grizzly bear. He was several hundred feet up the road so I didn’t feel threatened. I just stopped walking and stared. The bear scratched itself and then started lumbering lazily towards me. I walked slowly backwards and then turned down a side street, into the resort, leaving before anything bad happened.

I saw no more of the bear. I had an urgent message for the owner of the resort, and continued on my way to her house forgetting about the oddity of a bear in this area.

As I drew close to the house, again the bushes shook ahead of me. I froze as the bear jumped out onto the road. It stood and roared. I was being stalked. Behind me, people stopped their morning walks and those at the café lowered the cups of cappuccino.

“Run. Get out of here,” I cried to them, then turned and fled myself. The crowd vanished into buildings. The bear rushed after me.

I was going to die, I knew it. And I ran fueled with fear. I outran a young boy who was wheezing with exertion. I looked over my shoulder as the bear, catching him, crashed and rolled on the ground; the boy clasped in its great claws. I was overjoyed. The boy distracted the bear which was allowing me to escape. What luck; I was going to live.

I stopped running, consumed with guilt. What had I just thought? That was terrible. So I turned and ran back. Against a building was a stack of chopped wood. I grabbed a log and hurled it at the bear. Again and again I threw. The bear drew back, startled by the sudden attack. Confused it retreated to the nearest trees leaving the boy on the ground. I rushed forward, lifted the boy, and together we ran inside a nearby building.

The building had several rooms and large glass windows. In fact, the door was glass. It wouldn’t keep a grizzly bear out long. I locked it as the bear sprinted from the trees towards us.

There were several people inside the store, a gift shop of sorts, who looked at us questioningly. I pulled everyone into the center of the room, away from the windows. The bear slammed into the door. The glass cracked but held. The bear battered angrily. I led everyone through the rooms to another door. But as we reached it, three more bears attacked. That door was glass as well. We were surrounded. I was shocked at how cunningly the bears had apparently planned this.

The first bear crashed through the door. One of the others had worked its way in through a window. The third and fourth worked on the back door. One had its paw through the bottom and was shattering the glass in a widening hole. The sound of roaring, breaking glass, and screaming filled my ears.

Then I woke up.
