I was in Rob's basement with Josh. We had on the old blue uniforms of the French army, the one with the white X across the chest. To the sound of feet stomping down the stairs we picked up our muskets. The British redcoats flooded the basement; but they were met by a horde of French that had been hiding in the back hallway. The battle raged in the family room and was over quite swiftly. The British had crushed the French and Josh and I were all that were left standing. We looked at each other and rushed for Rob’s bedroom. The British muskets were roaring behind us. Balls ripped into the wall ahead as we ran. We slammed the door when we got to Rob’s room and jumped behind his bed waiting for the shots to blast through the wall. They never came. As we sat looking at each other wondering why they didn’t shoot we heard the door start to open slowly. It was then that we realized that they didn’t know their muskets could shoot through the walls like paper. Josh jumped up and threw himself against the door, pushing the British back. He tried to lock it but there was no lock (like real life). He had his eyes closed, obviously waiting to be shot in the back, while I tried to open the window. (In this dream, his window was on the west side instead of the south. It was also one of those half window slits that don’t have window wells.) I got it open and crawled out, barely fitting; Josh followed.
We ran into the hollow and met up with a group of French survivors from a previous engagement. We headed down to Happy Hollow and then back to the hotel we were staying in.
The hotel looked like a Cruise ship. The “ship” was at one side of this expensive resort we were staying at (We being a large group of people from Davis High School). It had a large lake behind it. I walked in and all around me were the Redcoats, and a few scattered French that had lived through the days battles (All people from Davis). Nuts. They were all eating which meant I had missed dinner. Tired and discouraged from our loss, I decided to go up to the main dining room to be alone.
The dining room was on the top deck and had full length glass windows all along the sides. The tables were lined up at the sides facing the windows. The back of the hotel was in the lake and the sun was setting slowly over it now. I turned and saw Kathrine, head on table, watching me. Her eyes were pure black. I felt disturbed by this so I went into my room to sleep.
To be continued...
